11 / Mapu brand system

Product experience

A brand about handing responsibility over has to prove it in the interface. Both people see the same record, nothing is scored, nothing is hidden, and every item is built to leave the system. Screens below are design demonstrations, not shipped features.

Three surfaces

Mobile

Navigator

The daily surface. What is agreed, what is being practised, what has moved across.

Home and tablet

Hearth

The shared room view. Opened together, at a set time, by both people.

The agreement

Foundation

The written record underneath both. Editable only by consent from both sides.

Onboarding

Two entries into the same account. Neither is the administrator of the other.

Set up together

Step 2 of 4 · Parent

Choose what you want to be visible to both of you. Anything you leave out stays out.

Your teenager sees this same list before anything is agreed.

Parent entry

Sets intent before settings. The first question is what the family wants to be true, not which app to block.

Your side of it

Step 2 of 4 · Ana

Nothing here is decided yet. Tell us what you’d like more say over first.

Your parent can see your choices. You can see theirs. That’s the whole idea.

Teenager entry

Opens with visibility rights, stated plainly and first. Consent is asked for, not collected quietly.

Progress means fewer items in the system, not more points in an account.

Up from 4 in December. Two moved this month.

No scores. No streaks. Just the direction of travel.

Every commitment has a name against it — including the parent’s.

Shared commitments

Parents carry commitments too. The list is never one-directional.

Ana now manages her own study time

Practised for six weeks. Moving out of shared review from today.

What changes

  • No weekly review for this item
  • Ana sets and edits it herself
  • Either of you can reopen it

One item fewer in Mapu. That is the intended direction.

Handover

The system’s only celebratory moment, and it marks something leaving Mapu for good.

Hearth

Designed to be read from two metres away, by two people standing up.

Status

Radius and elevation

8 px controls, 12 px cards, one soft shadow only.

Accessibility and behaviour

Non-negotiable

  • Minimum 4.5:1 contrast for all text, verified per pairing
  • 48 × 48 px minimum touch target, 8 px minimum spacing between targets
  • Every state legible without colour: text label plus position
  • Full keyboard path through every flow, visible focus ring in Mapu Deep Blue
  • All motion removed under prefers-reduced-motion

Do

  • Show both people the same record, by default
  • Let a teenager initiate a change to the agreement
  • Retire items from the system once they are held independently

Don’t

  • Points, streaks, badges or leaderboards
  • Silent location or activity reporting to one side
  • Push notifications outside the agreed review time
